I am a New York-based abstract painter creating work that is inspired by intimate thoughts and conversations. i paint to interpret and respond to the world around me during moments of nothingness and seasons of discovery. I stumbled upon my passion for painting during what seemed like an endless struggle with mental health and began using it as a means of expressing thoughts and feelings I didn’t have the words for.
My work is a showcase of interactions between strangers and friends, mental souvenirs of my travels, and visual notes of personal growth. Each mark and color chosen is an extension and interpretation of a deep, intimate thought or moment. I prefer to work large as it requires me to use my whole body to push water and paint, allowing me to freely release energy and thoughts onto the paper or canvas with limited restrictions. My process is often experimental; each work being a collection of marks, both unplanned and rehearsed, used to respond to the one before or encourage the next.
